3 nabbed in buy-bust; research assistant submits to ‘tokhang’

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Three drug suspects were arrested in separate buy-bust operations in Cagayan Valley, a day before Police Regional Office 02 reinstated Oplan Tokhang on Monday, January 29.

One of the suspects is a 19-year-old waiter who was caught trying to sell marijuana in a drug bust in Barangay San Pedro, Tumauini, Isabela. He was identified as Jordan Calinggal, a resident of Macaycayu, San Mariano, Isabela.

Farmer Christopher Quijalvo, 32, was also nabbed in a buy bust in Sinamar Norte, San Mateo, Isabela. Police confiscated from Quijalvo three sachets of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia, and marked money.

Police also arrested Jayson Gammad, 26, a tricycle driver, in another buy bust in Barangay Don Tomas Madella, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

Police said he allegedly tried to sell marijuana which he hid in three folded pages of newspaper.

The suspects are set to face charges in violation of Republic Act 9165.

Meanwhile, on the first day of Oplan Tokhang, a newly identified drug user surrendered to police in Nueva Vizcaya.

The tokhang responder was identified as Shylimar Toledo, 37, a science research assistant from Barangay Bintawan Sur, Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya.

Toledo is now under custody of Villaverde local government after signing an affidavit of undertaking.

Police Regional Office 02 Regional Director, Police Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino urged the public to cooperate with the police in its efforts to cleanse the region from illegal drugs.

“Malaki ang role ng mga mamamayan sa hangarin ng pamahalaan na sugpuin ang iligal na droga sa komyunidad kung kaya’t nakikiusap kami na makipagtulungan sa amin para mapagtagumpayan natin ito,” Espino said. Northernforum.net
