TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook Cagayan and Ilocos on Wednesday morning, August 30, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The quake occurred at 6:08 am, with the epicenter at 33 kilometers southwest of Calayan, Cagayan, PHIVOLCS said. Earlier reports state that it lasted only for a few seconds.
PHIVOLCS said the quake was tectonic in origin and that it had a depth of 13 km.
The quake was reportedly felt at Intensity 2 in Laoag City and instrumental Intensity 2 in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, and Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
Meanwhile, there are no recorded injuries or property damage in the areas but PHIVOLCS said that aftershocks are expected.
A magnitude 2.2 earthquake was also recorded in the area at 1:46 am on the same day. Northernforum.net
