The municipality of Sant’Antonio Abate, which is expected to assume ownership following a final ruling on the controversial confiscation related to illegal zoning, has plans to transform the sprawling 40,000-square-meter complex into a hub for public services. This redevelopment, while aimed at benefiting the community, raises serious concerns for the restaurant’s current workforce of around 200 employees, who now face an uncertain future.
The employees, including chefs and waiters, have taken a stand by penning an open letter, shared by the editorial team of Fanpage, calling for institutional intervention. They emphasize that this situation transcends legalities and debates, focusing instead on the human impact of these decisions.
“We are not here to discuss television shows, controversies, or rulings. Today, we wish to talk about people,” the letter states. It highlights the real lives behind the glitz of the Castle of Ceremonies—fathers who rise at dawn to prepare the venue, mothers who serve guests with a smile despite personal financial struggles, and young individuals who have built their futures within these walls. Entire families rely on this establishment for their livelihoods.
The letter continues to express the urgency of the matter: “Judicial matters must take their course. No one is asking for the law to be overlooked. Yet, a just state cannot forget the innocent individuals who stand to suffer the most. While discussions about legal documents and technicalities unfold, families are left trembling in fear. Employees are losing sleep at night, and children are asking their parents, ‘Mom, Dad… are we going to lose our jobs?'”
Amidst talks of potential demolition, eviction, and revocation of business licenses, there has been acknowledgment in official statements that the Castle of Ceremonies plays a vital economic role in the region, providing employment to hundreds of families.
The employees assert, “We cannot allow the burden of this situation to fall solely on the workers. Those who prepare the banquets did not construct illegal walls. Those who clean the floors did not issue verdicts. Those who serve at the tables are not responsible for these decisions. Yet, it is they who now face the risk of losing everything.”
In a heartfelt appeal, the workers are calling for a permanent dialogue involving the municipality, the Campania Region, the Prefecture, and the Government. “This letter is a human appeal before it is a political one. We ask the institutions to find a concrete solution that protects personnel, employment levels, and the future of the affected families.”
They demand immediate job security guarantees, a continuity plan for employment, the protection of economic activities tied to the establishment, and, above all, the importance of “human dignity” to remain at the forefront of any future decisions.
The letter poignantly concludes: “When a place like this closes, it is not just a sign that goes dark. Lives are shattered. Homes become empty. The hope of entire families diminishes. Today, we are not defending a television symbol but the workers—real people, with real faces and real stories. Justice should not lead to social despair. The institutions must show that humanity still exists behind the laws.”
