TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Public Utility Vans (PUVs) started to charge higher fares for commuters in Cagayan Valley based on the approved fare matrix of the government transport regulator.

In a certification issued on Wednesday, January 24, the Land Transportation Regulatory and Franchising Board (LTFRB) said the approved fare from Tuguegarao City to Claveria is P360 for regular commuters and P288 for students and senior citizens.

The new charge is P142 higher than the previous charges.

LTFRB in 2017 already approved the new fare matrix, changing the P1.20 charge to P2.00 for every kilometer.  This would mean the previous fare from Tuguegarao to Claveria was P216.

Several van drivers explained they had been charging below the approved fare matrix since last year, but are now forced to implement due to increasing price of oil products.
