The Regional Department of Science and Technology provided additional free health services through their ‘RxBox’ program to the Rural Health Unit of Calayan Island.
DOST R2 deployed a biomedical unit on the island to establish the RxBox services that include a blood pressure cuff, puff oximeter, thermometer, electrocardiogram sensor, and 3-in-1 fetal doppler, tachometer, and fetal movement marker sensor that will be beneficial to Calayanos in their basic medical needs.
Additionally, the telemedicine device will enable medical personnel to directly send their patients’ data to specialists for consultation and necessary referrals.
Officials from the agency also conducted a Super User Training for the medical personnel of Calayan RHU on how to effectively utilize the devices to provide their medical services effectively.
The RxBox will help residents and communities of the island to have access to free medical services without traveling for hours to the mainland. Report by Dan Angeles/ TNF
