Iconic ‘Home Alone’ House Hits the Market – Not the One You Think!

Update on :
This house from 'Home Alone' is for sale. No, not that one.

A residence showcased in the beloved film “Home Alone” has hit the market. However, it’s not the iconic house where protagonist Kevin McCallister sets up his ingenious traps. Instead, it’s the neighboring house that appeared in the movie as the residence of “Old Man” Marley.

This particular house is located at 681 Lincoln Ave. in Winnetka, Illinois, just next door to the famous McCallister house from the 1990 film. It is currently listed for $3.79 million, as per the real estate agent’s online listing.

The expansive three-story property boasts six bedrooms, six-and-a-half bathrooms, and occupies a two-thirds acre lot. Highlights include an in-ground swimming pool, a putting green, and a half basketball court. Additional amenities feature multiple patios, a screened porch, a balcony, dual staircases leading to the second floor, and an in-law suite. The house was originally constructed in 1898.

According to Valdiserri, the real estate agent handling the sale, the listing will pause for the holiday season. During this period, it will not appear on consumer platforms like Zillow but will only be accessible to brokers through the end of January.

Architectural Significance Beyond the Movies

While the “Home Alone” connection adds a unique touch, what sets this home apart, according to Valdiserri, is its designer, the esteemed Chicago architect Benjamin Marshall. Known for his elaborate and luxurious architectural style, Marshall’s designs are celebrated for their opulent details and use of high-end materials. This information comes from the Benjamin Marshall Society.

Among Marshall’s most notable works are The Blackstone Hotel located on Michigan Avenue and the East Lake Shore Drive District in Chicago. His portfolio wasn’t limited to his home city, however, as his architectural prowess also led to projects in New York and Los Angeles. Marshall’s broad body of work includes hotels, residential buildings, theaters, and factory plants. Remarkably, the house at 681 Lincoln Ave. is one of only two buildings in Winnetka that were designed by Marshall.
