Ilagan to build P270-M corn processing complex

TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN – City of Ilagan as the Corn Capital of the Philippines, will soon have its own P270 million corn facility according to Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Local Government Unit.

City Mayor Josemarie Diaz said that they have already started planning of the said project with the DA officials last October 15-16, 2020. “We have to attend to other equally important aspects of our governance; we have to give the same emphasis of response considering that they have to mutually co-exist with each other,” he said.

The mayor also said that it is a response of the LGU to the need for economic bounce back to be able to provide the requirement for food while ensuring quality health care and safety of Ilagueños.

As for DA-2 Regional Executive Director Narciso Edillo, he said that Cagayan Valley region produced 1.8 million metric tons of corn that contributed 20.9 percent of the national corn production last year.

He said that the soon-to-rise corn processing facility will be an icon of climate – resilient agricultural advancement to be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to boost production, agri-business opportunities geared towards inclusive growth and sustainable development of the corn industry.
