TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A bridge connecting Tuguegarao and Solana was proposed to loosen up the traffic in central Tuguegarao.
Cagayan Third District Representative Randy Ting, in an interview with The Northern Forum, said he had filed a bill for the construction of a bridge across Cagayan River, connecting the villages of Bagay in Tuguegarao City and the Centro of Solana town.
Ting said the bill is being supported by several bills he also filed to convert some provincial and local roads into national road to facilitate the construction of the mega bridge.
The new bridge, according to him, is seen to create new bypass roads to loosen up the heavy traffic in the center and southern part of Tuguegarao.
“Yes, definitely [it will loosen up the traffic] in Luna Highway and Metro Tuguegarao kasi diversion ‘yun eh, bypass na naman ‘yun eh, makita mo naman ‘yung Buntun ngayon, two lanes lang ‘yun eh,” Ting said.
The Buntun bridge is the major route for motorists and commuters going to Tuguegarao and going out to western Cagayan and western Isabela, and in to the Cordillera region.
The lawmaker added that with all the developments ongoing inside the city, constructions of new bypass roads “should be done” as solution to worsening traffic situations.
He urged local officials to also create new road networks as part of their traffic management strategies.
“Kaya nga tayo nagcho-choke dito sa loob ng Tuguegarao kasi dito sa Tuguegarao wala naman silang ginagawang bagong kalsada… Eh kailangang mag-isip naman ang ating local officials, including the provincial government,” Ting said.
Meanwhile, Congressman Ting also filed a bill for the creation of Cagayan River Development Administration.
The agency, according to him, will serve as a body for the regulation and protection of use of the longest river in the country. Northernforum.net
