Seed distribution continues in Cagayan province

 Tuguegarao City – The Provincial Government of Cagayan resumes the distribution of seeds on April 14 to different municipalities in the region like Allacapan, Ballesteros, Abulug, Pamplona, Sanchez Mira, Claveria, and Sta. Praxedes via the (OPA) Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.

According to OIC of OPA, Danilo Benitez, the repacking of the seeds are currently ongoing at the Provincial Capitol. Another scheduled wave of distribution will be on April 15, in Baggao, Lallo, Gattaran, Aparri and Lasam, Cagayan. The city of Tuguegarao will also receive its share of seeds on April 16 via PGC.

During the initial distribution of OPA to the different LGUs last April 6, there were a total of 60,150 pouches dispatched to 15 LGUs in Cagayan which includes Enrile with 3,300 pouches, Solana at 5,700, 4,800 for Tuao, 4,350 for Rizal, 2,700 for Piat, 4,650 for Sto. Nino, 3,600 for Penablanca, 3,450 for Iguig, 7,050 for Amulung, 3,750 for Alcala, 4,200 for Camalaniugan, 4,500 for Buguey, 1,950 for Sta. Teresita, 3,750 for Gonzaga and 2,400 for Sta. Ana.

According to the Provincial Government of Cagayan, the giving of seeds follows the same distribution procedure used for the food assistance program wherein each municipality in the region is responsible for the repacking and equal distribution of seeds to their respective barangays.

“Ang alokasyon ng bawat bayan ay base sa bilang ng mga barangays. Bawat barangay naman ay makakatanggap ng 150 pouches ng seeds,” said Benitez. He added that the seeds are 9 kinds better known as “pinakbet” type of seeds that include vegetables like ampalaya, eggplant, chili, okra, tomatoes, petchay, calabasa, and upo. The said project amounts to about P4.2 Million provided by the Provincial Government of Cagayan as support to everyone affected by the crisis during the Enhanced Community Quarantine in the province.
