Teacher-kagawad nabbed in drug bust in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A 37-year old teacher was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Camalaniugan, Cagayan on Saturday afternoon, August 19.

John Paul Paliuanan Lumabas, who is also a barangay kagawad of Centro 05 in nearby Aparri town, was caught after transacting with a police posing as buyer at around 12:45 pm in Barangay Catotoran Norte, Camalaniugan.

The police confiscated a sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and P500 marked money from Lumabas, who was identified as a teacher at the Lyceum of Aparri.

Police Chief Inspector Garry Matagay of Camalaniugan Police told The Northern Forum that Lumabas was classified as level one high value target active in the area, based on their monitoring.

Matagay said the suspect already surrendered to the police in their Operation Tokhang on August 21 last year. Lumabas identified himself as a user of illegal drugs back then but has reportedly continued his operations.

“Nakakalungkot lang isipin na despite na nagsurrender na sila (drug pushers, users), bumabalik po ang ibang mga surrenderer natin [sa illegal na gawain],” said Matagay.

Lumabas is now detained in Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Aparri after his inquest on Sunday.

The operation was part of the police’s Project Double Barrel Reloaded. Northernforum.net
