TUGUEGARAO CITY – Two men were arrested in Gonzaga, Cagayan for selling liquor on April 29, 2020.
In addition, Cagayan Valley Medical Center medical chief Dr. Glenn Mathew Baggao emphasized that the car used for selling liquors was not a vehicle from the said hospital.
“Hindi po ako nag-authorize ng kahit anong uri ng pagbebenta ng alak sa mga staff na nahuli. Dahil frontliners sila, vinalidate din namin ang car pass kung kasama sila sa mga nabigyan”, Baggao said.
He also said that the car pass used by the suspects was invalid. “Hindi sila kasama sa mga sa mga nabigyan ng car pass”, he added.
Meanwhile, Gonzaga town police chief Jefferson Gannaban said the suspects were identified as certain businessman Jim Joseph Mangahas, 31, and nursing aid Ernan Cariño, 35, both from Barangay Casambalangan in Santa Ana, Cagayan.
The suspects were aboard a Mitsubishi Montero Sports vehicle that has a DOH Health Worker Pass stamped at the windshield, the police report said.
Prior to their arrest, police said they received a confidential information reporting the two suspects for selling liquor in Barangay Calayan, and immediately alerted the checkpoints.
The vehicle was reportedly intercepted at the boundary of Gonzaga and Santa Teresita, but tried to evade arrest, prompting police to chase the suspects until they were cornered in Barangay Pateng in Gonzaga town.
Based on Police report, authorities recovered from the suspects were 26 boxes containing Ginebra S. Miguel (250ml).
Charges such as usurpation of authority, resistance and disobedience to an agent in person under the Republic Act 11332 are being filed against the suspects.
