Buntun, San Gabriel declared champ in Afi Festival’s streetdance competition

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Barangays Buntun and San Gabriel emerged as champions of the Street Dancing Competition as part of this city’s Afi Festival 2017, held along Bonifacio Street on Saturday, August 12.

Clad in their white, orange, and blue costumes with matching “afi” (fire) aesthetics, the team also bagged the Best in Costume and Props award.

One of the team’s coaches, Resly Vergel Sumer, expressed his joy over the win, saying, “at least nabigyan ng justice yung pagod namin.”

“Masaya kami kasi nakuha po namin yung dream namin,” said Christine Tamayao, a performer.

Coming in at first runner-up is the team of Barangays Bagay, Pallua Sur, and Pallua Norte while the team of Cataggaman Nuevo, Viejo, and Pardo won second runner-up. They took home Best in Choreography and Best in Music respectively.

Meanwhile, the contingent of barangays Annafunan East, Annafunan West, Atulayan Sur, and Atulayan Norte got fourth place; and barangays Namabbalan, Tagga, Dadda, and Gosi won fifth.

Each team brought home cash prizes through the City Schools’ Division of Tuguegarao led by Superintendent Denizon Domingo.

The street dancing competition was participated in by barangay clusters and it ended early this year compared to previous years. Northernforum.net
