CAGAYAN, Philippines- The provinces of Isabela and Cagayan have started to implement pre-emptive evacuations in its coastal towns ahead of the expected landfall of Typhoon Rosita in Isabela-Aurora area on Tuesday, October 30.
In his interview with DZMM Teleradyo, Governor Faustino Dy III said the province’s coastal towns have started to report evacuations due to worsening sea and weather conditions.
Isabela provincial government’s spokesperson Jessie James Geronimo told Rappler that disaster teams are also facilitating evacuations in landslide-prone village of Yeban Norte in Benito Soliven town.
Geronimo said local authorities are closely monitoring risk-prone areas, such villages who experience frequent flooding, landslide, and storm surge.
“At any time, forced evacuations will also be implemented,” Geronimo said in a phone interview on Monday, October 29.
State weather bureau PAGASA has placed the province of Isabela under storm warning signal no. 3 in its 11 am advisory on Monday.
With the expected brunt of Rosita, Geronimo said provincial disaster agency on Saturday, October 27, advised farmers to harvest maturing crops to prevent it from being damaged by the typhoon.
Liquor ban, no fishing, no sailing, and no swimming are currently in effect in the province.
Meanwhile, in Cagayan province, Governor Manuel Mamba advised residents in risk-prone areas to take precautionary measures against flashfloods and landslides.
He also ordered local officials to bring residents in coastal villages to safer grounds due to threat of storm surge.
