(UPDATED) TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- At least 26 people were killed in a bus accident in Nueva Ecija province on Tuesday morning, April 18.
In a phone interview, Senior Inspector Robert De Guzman, Carranglan town police chief, said the 24 casualties died on the spot while 21 others were brought to nearest hospitals.
De Guzman, in a later follow up interview, said the tally rose to 26 after more reports came in.
“When we responded, we just found the bodies lying in the accident area, lifeless,” De Guzman told Forum in Filipino.
De Guzman said the Leomarick Trans was travelling from Isabela province to Candon town in Ilocos Sur province when it fell off ravine in Capintalan village in Carranglan around 11 am on Tuesday.
In their initial investigation, De Guzman said the Leomarick bus’ driver was speeding and even overtook vehicles on its way before falling off.
He said they have yet to release information on the identities of the casualties as they can’t touch the victims’ personal belongings yet.
He added that the injured victims were brought to the hospitals in Bayombong, Aritao and Bambang towns in Nueva Vizcaya and in San Jose City and Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija. –Northernforum.net/Rappler
