In the heart of Milan, a significant legal saga is unfolding, drawing the attention of both the media and the public. Chiara Ferragni, a prominent entrepreneur and influencer, recently made headlines as she attended the second pre-trial hearing at the Milan Court of Justice. With a cloud of serious allegations hanging over her, including charges of aggravated fraud, the atmosphere surrounding her case has become increasingly tense and intriguing.
The roots of this controversy stretch back to December 2023, when the Italian Antitrust Authority imposed fines on both Ferragni and Balocco for engaging in misleading commercial practices during the charity campaigns known as Pandoro Pink Christmas in 2022, as well as those related to Easter eggs in 2021 and 2022. The investigation was sparked by a complaint from the consumer rights organization Codacons, which claimed that the donations made to the Regina Margherita Hospital in Turin and the association I Bambini delle Fate were misleadingly presented to the public.
The allegations suggest that consumers were misled into believing that the amount donated would increase with the sales of the products, leading to claims of an unjust profit amounting to an astonishing 2.2 million euros for Ferragni’s companies. This situation has not only put her business reputation at stake but has also provoked a wave of reactions from consumers who feel deceived.
While Codacons has withdrawn from the proceedings after reaching a settlement with Ferragni, her defense team argues that the issues stemmed from a miscommunication, emphasizing that Ferragni has since made reparative donations totaling 3.4 million euros. The case has continued to evolve, with a closed-door hearing presided over by Judge Ilio Mannucci Pacini taking place on November 4.
The focus of the hearing was primarily on the establishment of civil parties, with Ferragni’s attorneys—Marcello Bana and Giuseppe Iannaccone—requesting an expedited trial for their client. Alongside Ferragni, other defendants include her former collaborator Fabio Damato and Francesco Cannillo, the president of Cerealitalia. A verdict is anticipated in January, and, as expected, a throng of journalists and photographers awaited Ferragni’s exit from the courthouse.
As she stepped out, Ferragni addressed the crowd, stating, “Thank you for your attention and for being here. This is a difficult time in my life, and I hope you understand why I can’t make any further statements. Thank you for being here, and let’s move forward.” Dressed in a chic black double-breasted jacket, white shirt, and high heels, her understated appearance belied the gravity of the situation.
Ferragni has repeatedly expressed her commitment to attending the hearings, determined to assert her innocence amid the ongoing allegations. As she navigates this challenging chapter, she has also faced a notable decline in her companies’ earnings, adding yet another layer of complexity to her already tumultuous situation.
