DSWD releases guidelines of ESA for Typhoon Ompong victims

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Oct. 15, 2018-The Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 2 (DSWD-2) conducted a meeting with humanitarian agencies, Non Government Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Service Organizations (CSOs) re: Rehabilitation of Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut) Affected Families at Crown Pavillion.

Base on the data of DSWD, the affected population as of Oct. 1, 2018 is estimated up to 1 million people composed of 290 thousand families and 1,847 barangays.

DSWD also released a Memorandum Circular No. 19 series of 2018, guidelines in the implementation of the “Emergency Shelter Assistance” (ESA) for the typhoon Ompong affected households with damaged houses.

This assistance is anchored on the “Build Back Better” principle settlement of the department.

The newly appointed Regional Director of DSWD, Dir. Leonardo C. Reynoso said that they are trying to be accurate in the information of affected families of Typhoon Ompong to ensure that all receives ESA.

In addition, Reynoso said that the fund for ESA has not yet been downloaded to them by the central office, for that, “We cannot project yet how much is the amount of budget that will be allocated”.

In preparedness, Reynoso said that DSWD is prepared before the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong.

As the new Regional Director, Reynoso stated that he still looking into the projects and possible initiatives of DSWD for the region.
