As the summer sun begins to warm the days and the excitement of the season fills the air, the sights and sounds of ice cream shops, beachside stands, and supermarkets echo with new frozen treats. The allure of packaged ice creams for 2026 is undeniable, even if they don’t quite capture the magic of the beloved flavors from the ’80s and ’90s. This year, I’ve taken it upon myself to sample a variety of these new delights, and I’m here to share my recommendations on what to indulge in—and what to skip.
With the summer just kicking off, let’s dive into the latest and greatest ice creams that have caught my attention.
Exciting New Flavors from Algida for 2026
The Algida family is expanding its offerings with a fresh line known as “Soft,” featuring a classic cornetto topped with a soft and compact layer. So far, I’ve come across two flavors: whipped cream and cookie, and whipped cream and caramel. I found the former delightful—perfect for an occasional treat, though it might become overly sweet if enjoyed too often. On the other hand, the caramel version was a bit too sugary and lacked balance. The Magnum, now more of a “Mignon,” featuring pistachio and chocolate, failed to impress me. The artificial taste of pistachio seems to be everywhere these days, from panettone to Easter dove cakes. It’s time for a break!
I also tried the Remix Cookie, which I think is a decent vanilla and caramel cookie. However, the portion size is disappointingly small. It doesn’t quite satisfy your hunger, but I’d still recommend giving it a try. The true showstopper from Algida this summer is the Volcanix! This five-layer ice cream on a stick includes vanilla, cocoa, cookies, a drizzle of caramel sauce, and a filling of salted caramel balls. It’s indulgent and delicious, but definitely not an everyday snack due to its high calorie count. This treat is available exclusively at bars. I also sampled the Minecraft ice cream, but it wasn’t to my liking—vanilla, chocolate, and blue puffed rice created a combination that felt overly artificial.
New Sammontana Ice Cream Flavors for 2026
Sammontana introduces exciting new flavors, including a Barattolino with Plasmon cookie bits! This option is enjoyable, but I wish the Plasmon crumbles were mixed throughout rather than just on the surface. The overall combination is sweet and quite tasty. However, the Barattolino with Pecan Nuts and Maple Syrup felt less appealing; while it’s not bad, the maple syrup brings to mind winter and cold weather, which doesn’t quite match the summer vibe.
The Cono Cinque Stelle has been revamped with a delightful duo of flavors: Cream and Strawberries, and Cream and Lemon. The first is subtle and pleasant, while the second leans a bit too sour for my taste. From the Gruvi line, the new coconut and cookie crumble flavor didn’t wow me either; it has a cloying sweetness that lacks the refreshing quality one typically seeks in summer ice creams. Perhaps the mix of chocolate and coconut doesn’t hit the right notes.
2026 Innovations from Nuii
Nuii is rolling out two new ice creams for summer 2026: Lemon Cheesecake with Yuzu from South Korea and Milk Chocolate with Cold Brew Coffee from Ethiopia. The first flavor is visually stunning, radiating sunshine with its bright yellow hue. However, the Yuzu’s taste is a bit challenging for me, and I wasn’t immediately impressed. I plan to give it another shot. If you’re a coffee lover, the second flavor might be right up your alley, though don’t expect anything groundbreaking—it’s a classic coffee ice cream experience.
