Marco Bocci’s Shocking Confession: How He Fights Against Memory Loss and Illness

"Non ricordo i volti": la sorprendente confessione di Marco Bocci e la sua strategia per combattere la malattia

In May 2018, a shocking medical crisis struck actor Marco Bocci, plunging him into a fight for his life. Hospitalized in a state of unconsciousness due to a brain infection caused by the herpes virus, the incident marked a turning point for the 47-year-old star. His recent appearance on the show “Domenica In” provided an opportunity for Bocci to open up about the profound challenges he faced during and after this harrowing experience.

Reflecting on the memory loss that ensued, Bocci shared, “At first, I remembered nothing. Some of my memory returned, but some is gone forever. I can watch the same movie five times without recalling that I’ve seen it before. It has been tough, but I’ve learned to cope.” This candid admission highlighted the emotional and psychological toll of his health ordeal, revealing a man striving to navigate the complexities of his altered reality.

How the Experience Transformed Him

Bocci elaborated on how this life-altering episode reshaped his perspective. “I am different now. I try to live in the moment without making plans or setting goals. This allows me to truly enjoy each experience.” In a previous interview, he mentioned the practical adjustments he’s had to make since losing his memory: “I keep filled notebooks and notes on my phone. The issue is that I don’t remember faces, and I can’t connect them with names. My strategy is to pretend I know everyone. But then I end up speaking affectionately or intimately, trying to grasp who they are, and after twenty minutes, they ask, ‘Shall we take a selfie?’ But I don’t even know them.”

The Challenges on Set

This memory loss has not only impacted his personal life but has also created clear difficulties on film sets. Bocci explained, “Before, I could memorize a script in three weeks, but now it takes me four months. At first, it drove me crazy, but now I’ve accepted the situation: if I can’t remember something, then so be it.” Currently, Bocci is starring alongside his wife, Laura Chiatti, in the Christmas miniseries “Se fossi te” on Raiuno. He describes the unique experience of working with his partner: “When you portray a character, you tell someone else’s story through yourself. Doing that with my partner felt a bit awkward.”

A Love Story Tested by Rumors

Despite being together for eleven years and raising two sons, Pablo and Enea, Bocci and Chiatti have frequently found themselves in the gossip columns, often facing speculation about their relationship’s status. “According to the rumors, we’ve been in crisis seventy times. Let them say what they want. In fact, keep saying we’re in crisis; it seems to bring us good luck,” he joked.

However, there was a genuine crisis shortly after their wedding in July 2014, when Chiatti requested a divorce just one day after they tied the knot. Bocci recounted, “We got married two weeks after meeting. The day after the wedding, the adrenaline wore off. When she told me, I believed it about twenty percent. I thought, ‘Can we resolve this?’ Fortunately, Laura changed her mind.” Unlike many celebrity couples who faced splits in 2025, their bond appears to have endured the tests of time.
