Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – As the cases of COVID-19 in Tuguegarao have once again breached the 500-mark, Mayor Jefferson P. Soriano said on August 6, that there is a possibility to switch the city to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
Soriano added that if the number of active cases continue to rise by Sunday, August 8, the Local Government Unit (LGU) will recommend the ‘stricter’ quarantine classification to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
As of August 6, the City Health Office has reported 2 new COVID-19 linked deaths, 78 new positive cases along with only 52 recoveries pushing the total active infections to 542.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), the premiere city of Cagayan is now the municipality with the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in Region 2.
DOH also increased the epidemic risk classification of Tuguegarao to “high” along with the province of Cagayan where nearby towns such as Baggao, Gonzaga and Solana have also reported surges in cases. TNF
