PDEA declares 18 barangays in Sto.Nino, Cagayan drug-cleared

STO. NIÑO, Cagayan—In its intensified campaign against illegal drugs, the Regional Oversight Committee on Dangerous Drugs under Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 2 (PDEA2) on January 23, 2019 declared 18 barangays “Drug-Free.

Resolution No. 170 Series of 2018, that after thorough assessment and validation pertinent to their compliance with the guidelines as enumerated in section 8 DBB Board Regulation No. 3, Series of 2017 declares the 18 barangays Drug-Free.

The Drug-Free Barangays are Lubo, Niug Sur, Niug Norte, San Roque, Matalao, Virginia, Cabayo, Campo, Namuccayan, Sta. Maria, Lipatan, Abariongan Uneg, Calassitan, Balagan, Balanni, Tamucco, Mapitac and Lattac.

PSI Ranolfo S Gabatin, Acting Chief of Police, Sto. Niño Police Station said that this declaration would not be possible without the continuous support of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) in fight against illegal drugs.

“Personally, I believe that Sto. Niño is one of the peaceful towns in the province and with all this efforts we can maintain peace and order”, he added.

Gabatin further stated that the Philippine National Police (PNP) thoroughly investigated and assessed by validating every barangays to make sure that these declared barangays are authentic.

Meanwhile, 20 Tokhang Responders graduated under Community-Based Rehabilitation Program while estimated 40 are still on rehabilitation.

Vincente Pagurayan, Municipal Mayor, Sto. Niño, Cagayan in his speech “This achievement will not be made possible without our consistency and uncoditional efforts.

Pagurayan also said “We do not want those things to happen in our municipality, it is our legal and moral obligation to sustain this program and develop what is right”.

“How I wish that all the barangays would be declared drug-free, but if we continue this, we will achieve a drug free and cleared municipality”, he added.
