Four days after his death, the test results came back saying he is the fourth positive COVID-19 case in Region 02.
Health officials from Nueva Vizcaya province has confirmed the death of a Person-Under-Investigation who tested positive from the disease.
“We are sad to confirm our first COVID-19 death in Nueva Vizcaya”, said Dr. Edwin Galapon, Provincial Health Officer (PHO).
The PHO said he was given permission to release the information by authorities from regional officials of the Department of Health.
Galapon said the victim is a 65-year old male and was earlier confined with acute respiratory infection at the Region 02 Trauma & Medical Center (R2TMC) in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.
The victim was confined on March 19 but died later on March 22. His wife is also confined at the same hospital and is now being treated.
The PHO said that the victim attended a funeral wake in Barangay Roxas in the town of Solano.
“Contract tracing is now being done to identify those who were also exposed to the victim. We were informed that the victim mingled with visitors who came from Hong Kong”, Galapon said.
The victim’s specimen was sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine and came back four days after his death.
According to Galapon, the victim’s body is still at the R2TMC’s cadaver freezer.
Nueva Vizcaya’s first COVID-19 victim is Cagayan Valley’s fourth, following PH275, PH661, and PH662 who are all from Cagayan Province.
