Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano has created a task force for the Coronavirus Disease – 19 (COVID-19) that will track down individuals who came from China or may have had contact with Chinese Nationals.
After the postponement of the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) due to COVID19 health scare, which was originally slated to happen on February 17-21 on Tuguegarao, Soriano has then ordered the head of the City Health Office Dr. James Guzman to lead the task force.
The NSPC which is now tentatively scheduled on March 9-13 according to Department of Education Region 2 Director Estella Cariño, is set to bring at least 6,000 students from all around the country into the city to compete against each other in the field of journalism.
As of today, February 15, 10 persons-under-investigation (PUI) for the COVID-19 are under quarantine in the region, where 20 former PUIs have been discharged.
The Tuguegarao City task force on COVID-19 has been ordered to track down individuals who may have been to China and conduct tests to see if they contain the virus.
The task force will also lead press conferences to provide direct social awareness for the benefit of all the residents in the city.
They will also conduct trainings to the City and Barangay Health Workers on COVID-19 Prevention, Containment and Control with the coordination of the Department of Health.
Mayor Jefferson Soriano has then assured Tuguegaraoeños that the city remains free from the COVID-19 amidst claims that there are confirmed cases in the city.
The mayor also asked prayers from everyone for the epidemic to end.
“In the meantime, please maintain proper hand and respiratory hygiene and safe food practices, should you suspect any COVID-19 case, please call immediately our Tuguegarao Command Center hotline at (0916) 887 2897.”, Soriano ended on his Facebook post.
