An unexpected threat loomed as they worked—sharks, including a tiger shark, began circling the area, seemingly assessing the lifeless bodies. “It looked ready to attack,” Grönqvist recounted, as the predatory fish approached with apparent intent during the recovery.

Reflecting on what may have led to the tragic incident, Grönqvist speculated that the divers may have made critical errors. He pointed out that the cramped conditions of the cave could have contributed to their disorientation. “They likely lost visibility when they turned to exit, especially after stirring up the bottom,” he stated. Moreover, he emphasized a fundamental mistake that was made: “The number one rule is to lay out a safety line, and they did not do that.”
