One month after Cagayan has been placed under General Community Quarantine, police arrested 12 individuals for illegal logging in the province, according to a police report.
PCOL Ariel Narag Quilang, director of Cagayan Police Provincial Office said four operations in different municipalities were conducted yesterday, June 7 which lead to the confiscation of 792 board feet of illegally sawn lumbers.
Two out the 12 arrested individuals are only 15 years old from Minanga in Piat, Cagayan. 385 board feet of sawn lumbers were taken from them.
The other arrested individuals are from Baggao, Pamplona, and Lasam which are known to have been a hot target for illegal loggers.
Even before the start of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, Director Quilang has vowed to stop all illegal logging activities in the province.
According to the police report, cases for violation of Presidential Decree 705 or the Forestry Reform Code will be filed against the arrested individuals.
