TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Department of Health (DoH) Cagayan Valley has officially started its operation today, May 27, 2020 on the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) testing laboratory.
OIC Director Dr. Leticia Cabrera said that they have conducted the dry run yesterday to test the procedures as well as the features following the calibration of the Gen Xpert machine.75
“Today we expect to test specimen samples from the different hospitals in the region,” Cabrera said.
In a report from Philippines Information Agency region 2, The machine can process up to 34 specimen samples for eight hours and the turned around of the results may be up to 24 to 72 hours.
DOH Cagayan Valley anticipates more tests to be conducted with people availing the Balik Probinsya Progam of the nation government.
For now, they will cater to specimen samples from the different hospitals and quarantine facilities in the region.
Meanwhile, as per protocol, the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Units will collect the specimen samples from the hospitals to be delivered to the laboratory at the DOH regional office
She also said the laboratory will be open during office hours everyday, including Saturdays and Sundays.
Cabrera also said they are expecting additional one machine from their central office, while the Cagayan Valley Medical Center and the Southern Isabela Medical Center are just waiting the license to operate of their proposed testing laboratories.
