TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Cases involving Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL) dropped compared the previous year, according to Regional Juvenile Justice Welfare Council (RJJWC).
Sheila Apostol, secretariat of RJJC said that there are 35 individuals under rehabilitation compared to last year’s 42. On the other hand, Police Regional Office (PRO) 02 recorded 194 cases on 2018 compared to 175 this year.
Police Lt. Col. Chevelier Iringan said that the top 3 crimes committed by children are involving illegal drugs, rape and theft. “Mayroong 45 drug cases ngayong taon habang 35 ang naitala noong nakaraang taon. Ito ay dahil sa programa na war on drugs na nagkapaghuli ng mas madaming CICL ngayong taon. (There are 45 drug cases this year, compared to 35 last year. Due to the campaign against illegal drugs, we were able to catch more CICL this year).”
Meanwhile, Lucia Alam, Assistant Regional Director of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said that the factors affecting the children to commit crimes are survival due to poverty, family problem and peer pressure. “CICL undergoes process to be rehabilitated.
They are brought to psychologist to know how they will handle stress”, she added. Alan also said that CICL are engaged to different activities to boost their esteem while they are inside the rehabilitation”, she added.
