TESDA Region 2 extends help to Typhoon Odette victims in Western Visayas

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Region II has deployed an augmentation team to provide rehabilitation assistance for Odette-hit areas in Western Visayas.

The 1st batch of the 11-man augmentation team is composed of trainers of construction-related qualifications from the different TESDA Administered Schools (TAS) in Region II.

The initial team flew to Region VI last January 8, 2022.

Thereafter, together with the disaster response team of TESDA Region VI, they were deployed to rebuild homes in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental pending the approval of scholarship allocations for the training of the residents there.

Regional Director Archie A. Grande said that the deployment of the augmentation team is cognizant to the directive of the TESDA chief, Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña, on the TESDAmayan Regional Buddy System.

“TESDA Region II has been assigned by Secretary Lapeña as the regional buddy of TESDA Region VI,” said Grande.

“As regional buddies, we are tasked to collaborate with TESDA Region VI and extend support and assistance in the rebuilding and rehabilitation efforts in the area,” added the regional director.

On February 7, 2022, the 2nd batch of trainers from the Cagayan Valley Region arrived in Negros Occidental to augment the 1st batch of trainers who have returned home to Region II after extending relentless services in the said city.

The 1st batch of augmentation team received a Hero’s Welcome from TESDA Region II officials during their arrival at the domestic airports of Tuguegarao City and Cauayan City last February 2, 2022.

To date, the 2 batches of augmentation teams have built a total of eight totally damaged houses, repaired 2 classrooms, performed electrical works, and installed four (4) solar-powered charging stations for residents in areas who are still experiencing power outage in the different affected barangays in Sipalay City.
The team also fabricated a mini-saw mill that is currently installed at the City Hall Motorpool which is used in cutting lumber for the construction works there.

Meanwhile, two (2) batches of training in Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) NC II and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I kicked off on February 10, 2022 and February 16, 2022, respectively with one hundred (100) enrollees availing of the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) under the Regional Training Center -Kabankalan scholarship allocation. These trainings are being handled by members of the Region II augmentation team namely: Mr. Arnold Adzuara and Mr. Dominic Bassig who are both from the Southern Isabela College of Arts and Trades (SICAT), Engr. Elmer A. Bartolome of the Isabela School of Arts and Trades (ISAT) and Mr. Jessie Alejo of the Lasam Institute of Technology (LIT) as trainer.

The scholars will be tapped to help rebuild homes and other infrastructures in Sipalay City through a training-cum-production scheme.TNF
