Weather Underground (Wunderground) said Tropical Storm Haima might become a supertyphoon and could pack about 251 kilometers per hour before it makes landfall over the north Luzon.

“Excellent environmental conditions will persist and support rapid intensification as the cyclone tracks northwestward into the Philippine Sea, reaching super typhoon strength at 135 knots or about 251 kph [in 72 hours],” Wunderground forecast.

It added that it is expected to cross over the northernmost tip of mainland Luzon around 3 pm on Thursday, October 21.

“‘Haima’ will likely intensify under continued favorable environmental conditions, peaking at 140 knots (about 260 kph) by tau 96 (in four days). Afterwards, interaction with the northern tip of Luzon will weaken the system down to 115 knots by end of forecast,” it added.

Wunderground said Haima is expected to exit the mainland via Ilocos Norte.

According to PAGASA, Haima will enter the the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday and will be named as Lawin. TNF
