Int’l foundation grants scholarships to 86 students in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Couple for Christ (CFC)- Answering the Cry of the Poor (ANCOP)-Tekton Foundation awarded scholarship grants to 86 students in Cagayan province.

CFC Finance Head Ruby Jane Puntil, during the Tipon Tipan of the Philippine Information Agency Region 2, said 15 elementary pupils, 28 high school students and 43 college students were given scholarships.

CFC Cagayan’s Orly Trinidad said the foundation provides educational package of P10,825 per semester for college students and P2,700 per quarter for elementary and high school students.

Doctor Angel Encarnacion, CFC Cagayan chapter head, said the grantees were selected through profiling.

These students, according to Encarnacion, are “poor but deserving and interested” students in their child sponsorship program. Applicants with multiple benefactors and sponsorship were not accepted.

Puntil said of 79 scholars are  foreign-funded while the remaining others are locally funded.

Scholarship is open to all applicants of any religion. CFC officials said scholars are not required to “pay back” to the organization in any service or manner.

Housing and Livelihood

CFC Cagayan’s Orly Trinidad said that ANCOP has also built 35 houses, all currently occupied, in Tambuli Village at Barangay Villa Leonora Buguey, Cagayan.

The organization is also reportedly in talks with the Tuguegarao City Government to find a lot for a 200-house community here in the city.

Encarnacion said they are coordinating with local government units and a memorandum of agreement will be forged once a project is approved.

ANCOP communities also provide livelihood programs such as handicraft product making and fishing for their occupants, especially women.

They noted that occupancy in the ANCOP community is non-transferable.

On Sunday, September 17, the group will initiate a ‘Global Walk’ to generate more funds for their programs. Registration will begin at 4AM in Saint Peter’s Metropolitan Cathedral here in the city.

A zumba session and a short program will start the event. The Global Walk will be done simultaneously nationwide.

ANCOP is a worldwide foundation initiated and organized by CFC in the Philippines. Northernforum.net
