TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan- A student was found dead in their own home in Iguig town in Cagayan province after being hacked by still unidentified suspect, police said.
In a phone interview, Police Senior Inspector Avelino Canceran, Iguig town police chief, identified the victim as Donna Villanueva Pascual, a business student at the Cagayan State University (CSU).
Pascual, according to Canceran, was found lying on the floor bathing in her own blood, with her head almost decapitated.
Initial investigation showed Pascual was alone in their house and her parents were travelling to Manila when the crime happened.
Canceran said the victim’s neighboring relative heard her screaming for help.
“Nung pumunta yung kapitbahay nila para i-check siya, nakahandusay na siya at naliligo sa dugo. Yung ulo niya halos mahiwalay na sa kanyang katawan,” Canceran told The Northern Forum.
The suspect allegedly broke in through the window and used to the main door to escape the crime scene.
Police are still investigating the motive of the killing but did not single out robbery as the motive of the killing.
“Hindi naman pinagnakawan ang biktima dahil naiwan naman yung cellphone, pera at iba n’yang gamit,” Canceran said, adding that the suspect possibly attempted to rape the victims but she resisted and screamed for help.
Meanwhile, Pascual’s classmate and teachers in CSU posted in Facebook their prayers and sympathies. Some used the hashtag #JusticeForDonna to encourage authorities to move swiftly in bringing the suspect to justice.
“May we all pray for the eternal repose of our student – DONNA VILLANUEVA PASCUAL, a 4th year BS Accounting Technology who was brutally killed yesterday evening at their house in Sta. Barbara , Iguig, Cagayan. May she rest in peace,” Emerita Geron, CSU’s business school dean. TNF
