CAGAYAN, Philippines- National Democratic Front of Philippines (NDFP) peace consultant and long-time activist Felix Randy Malayao was gunned down inside a bus in Nueva Vizcaya early morning.
Aritao town police chief Giovanni Cejes said Malayao was sleeping inside a Victory Liner bus when an unidentified gunman shot him around 2:10 am on Wednesday, January 30.
Police reports said the bus was on a stopover when the gunman climbed aboard and shot him.
He was proclaimed dead on the spot after sustaining two gunshot wounds.
Initial investigations showed the two suspects were on board a black Yamaha Mio motorcycle, and fled to South direction after the killing.
Malayao was on his way home to Isabela when the killing happened.
As an NDFP consultant, Malayao joined the formal peace negotiations in Europe, and had attended peace forums around the Philippines.
In February 2018, he was listed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) as a “terrorist” as part of the Duterte administration’s crackdown on rebellion, an accusation he vehemently denied.
In 2008, Malayao was jailed for rebellion charges filed by the military. He was later released after a court dismissed charges against him.
Malayao, an activist since his younger days, had also advocated for farmers, and against illegal mining and violence. Northernforum.net
