Buwacag Falls officially open for public

STA. ANA, Cagayan–Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) official cuts the ribbon in the official opening of Buwacag Falls at brgy. Sta. Clara

Deputy Administrator, Agrimero Cruz Jr., represented Northern Luzon Presidential Adviser and CEZA President, Sec. Raul Lambino during the ribbon cutting on thursday, April 11, 2019.

Cruz said that if there is a strong unity, there is strength for development. “It means we can achieve continuos and sustainable development for the betterment of the falls”, he added.

The Buwacag Eco-Tourism Association (BETA) will be reaponsible in maintaining and sustaining the falls in following the services and activities they will offer.

“These falls are similar to the hawaiian falls and their falls are visited by hundreds and thousands of people. So if they could do that, we can also use creativity to make that happen”, he said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Darwin Tobias said that the initial improvements seen in the area of the falls were help from the Local Government Unit of Tourism.

“I cannot see why we can’t equalize our tourism to big countries. We have what we need. We have the natural spots”, he stated.

The LGU together with the BETA assured the public their strict compliance and implementation of the rules of Buwacag Falls.

Buwacag was founded on the early 1900s when two negritos namely Maplit Ortega and his friens Manolo Tugawen discovered the flowing water from southeartern mountain brgy. of Sta. Clara.

The two negritos are elderes and leaders of their tribes named the falls theh discovered Buwacag.

According to the locals of the said barangay, Buwacag means the thunder sound of flowinf water from a high level stream falling over a cliff like step in a bedrock.
