TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines– Tokhang responders in Cauayan City are undergoing a two-month-long community-based rehabilitation program.
Cauayan City Police and focal persons simultaneously started the said recovery and wellness program on Friday, March 16, for responders from Forest Region, West Tabacal, Tanap Region, and Poblacion barangays.
The program aimed to help former drug personalities achieve a “decent and clean living,” police said.
Police Regional Office 2 (PRO2) partnered with the local government unit of Cauayan City, Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Rotary Club of Cauayan City and various religious sectors for the activity.
Cagayan Valley Police Regional Director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino stressed that that the main purpose of the program is to assist and help drug surrenderers for their recovery from drug dependence.
“Let them feel that there is hope waiting for them after Tokhang. Your Valley Cops is making its best to help these people to move on towards a better life,” Espino said.
“Other than drug rehabilitation and treatment, drug pushers also need a follow-up recovery program in order to prevent them from returning to their vices,” he added.
In January, Espino introduced his ABCDE strategy in anti-crime and drugs operations. This is “Always Busy Catching Criminal Drug pusher/user with Empathy.” Espino said the principle had been “effective” during his leadership as the regional director of Central Visayas region.
Meanwhile in Cagayan, Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Warren Gaspar Tolito earlier told media they will intensify tokhang in the province.
Tolito said they will knock on doors of 4,000 drug personalities, and that around 1,000 persons are undergoing rehabilitation in the center in City of Ilagan, Isabela. Northernforum.net
