High-powered guns, ammo seized from farmer in Isabela raid

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Assorted high-powered guns, including a M1911A1 .45 caliber pistol and .30 caliber Carbine M1, and ammunition were seized from a farmer-bodyguard in Cabagan, Isabela on Thursday, March 22.

Authorities arrested Roy Bautista, 49, in a raid conducted by joint forces of Isabela Provincial Police-Intelligence branch, Cabagan Police, and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Field Unit 02 Isabela.

Police confiscated from the suspect a Glock 17 9mm pistol, a M1911A1 cal. 45, a Smith and Wesson Gauge 12 Shotgun, a Carbine M1 cal. 30, and a hand grenade.

Police also seized 101 pieces of ammunition for 9mm; 52 pieces of ammunition for cal. 45; four pieces of ammunition for gauge 12 shotgun; 40 pieces of ammunition for Carbine; 59 pieces of ammunition for M16; 53 pieces of ammunition for M1 Garand; 17 pieces of ammunition for cal. 357; 10 pieces of empty shell for cal. 45; and one piece empty shell for cal. 357.

Also seized from Bautista’s house were four short magazines for Glock 9mm pistol; one long magazine for Glock 9mm; two 3/6 magazines for Carbine, four  magazines for cal. 45, two magazines for cal. 45, and two magazines for M16 Rifle.

The team also found a black bullet proof vest and a camouflage bullet proof vest.

Police were serving a search warrant against Bautista in violation of Republic Act 10591 or the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act” and in violation of Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by RA 9516.

Cagayan Valley Police Regional Director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino described Bautista as “dangerous,” noting the kind of firearms recovered in the suspect’s house.

“It’s good that the suspect was arrested because we cannot remove the suspicion that said firearms are being used by the suspect in illegal activities,” Espino said.

Further, the police regional director urged the public to “stay vigilant” and encouraged them to report immediately to the police of any suspicious individuals in their areas. Northernforum.net
