Maisie Blewitt, the commercial director of Transfer Travel, recently shared insights about the platform in an interview with a British tabloid, as reported by Adnkronos. She highlighted the unique proposition of their service, stating, “We’ve always described ourselves as the Vinted for travel or eBay for travel. If you can’t go on your vacation, you can simply list it for sale on our platform to recoup your investment.”
Currently, the site boasts over a thousand listings, reflecting a growing community of travelers looking to recover some funds as their plans change. Blewitt emphasized that “more than a thousand different people need to regain some money or sell their travel plans when circumstances shift,” and she elaborated on how transactions work on the site.
The Process Behind the Sales
Joining the Transfer Travel community is straightforward and free. Once registered, users can submit an offer for a vacation listing, negotiating the price if needed. They can also opt to purchase the trip outright.
Once a deal is struck, the seller must complete the name change process within 72 hours, transferring all necessary documents to the buyer, who will then enjoy their discounted getaway.
Growing Popularity of Reselling Vacations
The trend of reselling vacations is on the rise, evidenced by an astonishing 185% increase in listings on marketplace platforms year over year. This year alone, Transfer Travel has seen bookings worth a total of 7 million pounds, with the average vacation valued around 1,545 pounds.
Maisie Blewitt noted, “Typically, we say that savings can range from 40 to 70%, but in the last month, the average saving has been around 62%.” She illustrated this with an example of a trip to Malta originally priced at 90 pounds, which a seller offered for just 45 pounds, translating to a mere 20 pounds per person.
Despite the benefits, there are some drawbacks to consider. The primary disadvantage is the lack of personalized organization, as the level of detail provided about the trip relies heavily on the seller, similar to the experience of shopping on eBay or Vinted.
