PDEA declares 14 barangays drug-free in Ilagan

CITY OF ILAGAN, Philippines- The Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug-Clearing Operations headed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has already cleared 14 barangays in this city from illegal drugs.

Laurefel Gabales, PDEA regional director and chair of the Regional Oversight Committee, said the barangays were validated by the oversight committee to ensure the non-availability of drug supply, absence of drug transit activity, clandestine drug laboratory and chemical warehouse, marijuana cultivation site, drug den, drug pusher, and user in the barangays.

The 14 barangays are Sta. Catalina, Minabang, Naguilian Sur, Mangcuram, Rang-ayan, San Pablo, Morado, Gayong-Gayong Norte, Ballacong, San Ignacio, Salindingan, Capo, Quimalabasa and Carikrikkan.

The criteria of the oversight committee in declaring a barangay as drug free are enumerated, namely: a) non-availability of drug supply, b) absence of drug transit/transshipment activity, c) absence of clandestine drug laboratory, d) absence of clandestine drug warehouse, e) absence of marijuana cultivation site, absence of drug den or resort, f) absence of drug pusher, g) absence of drug pusher/dependent, h) absence of protector/coddler or financier, k) active involvement of barangay officials in anti-drug activities, l) active involvement of SK to help maintain the drug-liberated status of the barangay, m) Existence of drug awareness, preventive education, and information, and other related programs, n) existence of voluntary and compulsory drug treatment and rehabilitation processing desk.

For his part, Supt. Rafael Pagalilauan, Ilagan City chief of police, said of the 91 barangays here, 44 are drug-unaffected while 47 are drug-affected barangays.

Pagalilauan challenged the declared drug-free barangays to maintain their status as drug-free and continue to remain steadfast and vigilant at all times.
