TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan—“We should link farmers to the supply chain so that they would not bother going through any middleman”, Vice President Leni Robredo said during an interview after her speech at Business Convergence on Thursday morning, March 7, 2019.
Farming is the main livelihood in Cagayan Valley and it caters most of the country’s production on rice and corn.
Robredo said that the usual problem of farmers is that they always go through a middleman before entering the actual market which cause them more money than profit.
“Instead of gaining more profits, farmers pay middlemen and that cause them not to gain any”, she added.
“We should be the one linking them to the main market and not the middlemen”, Robredo emphasized.
Cagayan Valley is an agricultural region because it covers most of its land with Rice and corn lands.
However, due to the demand, farmers are worrying of a sudden raise materials and needs for their farms.
Robredo also said that this Business Convergence is an avenue for small and medium businesses to become big and productive.
The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) aims to help small time businesses to become efficient and productive based on their primary products.
“PCCI collaborates with public and private agencies to teach farmers to become businessmen themselves so that, they would be able to go straight to the market themselves”, Robredo explained.
The 1st Cagayan Valley Business Convergence in Northern Luzon headed by PCCI is being conducted at Crown Pavillion for 2 days, March 7-8, 2019. northernforum.net
