TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan- Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association Cluster 2 opened in Tuguegarao City at 3 pm on Monday, March 4, 2019 with hundreds of student-athletes competing in the regions’ biggest youth sporting activities.
The event was participated by the nine Divisions of Region 02; Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Tuguegarao, Ilagan, Santiago, Cauayan and Batanes.
At 3 pm, the regional competition kicks off with an opening program for athletes held at Cagayan Sports Complex-the venue which will cater the different sport activities.
“The objective of sports is to achieve excellence through fair play, attain full potential of human being and encourage athletes to be the best during competitions” Arnulfo M. Balane, Schools Division Superintendent, OIC-Office of the Regional Director said.
“Being first is not a priority but striving for personal excellence does” he added.
Brilliant Chief Education Supervisor (ESSD), Joselito L. Narag, Ph.D. presented the delegates with their loudest cheers and yells representing each divisions.
As the host City, Atty. Jefferson P. Soriano challenged every athlete in his welcome message saying, “You must win this sport event because the LGU and Dep Ed invest for sports and character level”.
Ending his message was a surprise to the audience as he offers Tuguegarao City to host the CAVRAA 2021.
Meanwhile, Ret. Gen. Rodulfu Alvarado, Provincial Administrator, representative of Governor Mamba, “I stand before you because I was once an athlete, I played basketball, I went to Baguio, to Bicol kaya’t pagbutihin niyo ang paglalaro”.
Moreover, Dr. Denis M. Agbayani officially presented the division voices for this year’s delegation banner soaring high for Region 02.
For their part, the Cagayan National High School students put fires of excitement as they performed a ukalele rendition of “Kiss me (2x) and buwan” song.
Everyone in the bench happily participated in chorus with the CNHS performers.
No less than Gold medalist, Rashied Faith Burdeos delivers the oath of amateurism before the hundreds of athletes present.
“I appreciate all of you for making this event possible. You are here not only to win the game but also to win friends and be a responsible citizen”, Estela Carino, Regional Director, Dep Ed said during her speech.
Adding even more fun to the afternoon’s activity is the Mass dance of 1300 teachers of Tuguegarao City for Folk Dance and 1000 teachers of Division of Cagayan for Zumba.
Prior to the sports event tomorrow, the lady of Ceremony Mrs. Jonalyn D. Callueng engaged the nine division in a “Maddulo kayo! Mabuhay Region 02!”
Victorious athletes will be determined by Monday, March 11, the day set for the CAVRAA Cluster 3 round. The awarding and closing ceremonies will be held on Saturday at 1pm. northernforum.net
