TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan- Cagayan Police Provincial Office (CPPO) was adjudged as the outstanding PPO in the search for Camp Rafael Crame Balangay awards 2019.
This is through the partnership with “The Humanitarian Order of Sierra Falconés”, a non-governmental organization supporting the Philippine National Police in community engagement and outreach programs.
Provincial Director PCol Ariel Narag Quilang said that it was all for the people of Cagayan. “Itong mga partners namin, ang Sierra Falcones ay ang tumulong sa amin upang makamit itong award. Napakalaki ng tulong ng proyektong ito upang labanan ang insurgency sa aming probinsya”, he added.
(Our partners, the Sierra Falcones who helped us to win this award. This project is a very big help to fight the insurgency in our province).
Primarily, ‘Akyat Aklatan’ project was coined by a group of young media practitioners based in Cagayan during the launching of DepEd’s Project Classhome in Zinundungan Valley in Rizal town. They are Mark Djeron C. Tumabao of PIA, Joshua Kahulugan of The Northern Forum, Florence Tarcina of DWPE Radyo Pilipinas and Rose Anne Ballad of Bombo Radyo Tuguegarao.
Later, the project name was adopted by PNP Cagayan, of then provincial director Ignacio Cumigad now chief directorial staff of PNP Region 2, which benefitted schools in remote and insurgency-affeted areas since its inception in June 2019.
Best Balangay means best PNP unit in the country.
Also winners of the 2019 Balangay awards Outstanding PPOs were Abra and Leyte PPOs.
What comes next after Akyat Aklatan?
Narag said that another project is already set to be launched which will be anchored from Akyat Aklatan.
Project Pag-asa sa Pagbasa “PagPag” which was proposed by Sierra Falcones Northern Luzon members aims to create impact to the children of remote communities.
PagPag is a supplementary project that will be sustainable in the advocacy of making reading a hobby not a requirement.
