The recent residency of Zucchero at the famed Arena di Verona came to a spectacular close on October 8, marking the end of a remarkable series of twelve concerts that began on September 16. These final performances not only showcased his talent but also established a new milestone, bringing together an impressive 720,000 fans across 66 shows. This achievement highlights the enduring popularity of the artist, known for his unique blend of blues and Italian music, as he continues to captivate audiences in one of the country’s most iconic venues.
As reported by the team at L’Arena, Zucchero, whose real name is Adelmo Fornaciari, holds the record for 22 performances in a single year from September 2016 to September 2017, as well as 14 consecutive shows between April and May 2022. This year, he again reaffirmed his connection to the Arena di Verona, drawing in 120,000 spectators eager to experience his live performance. And this is just the beginning, as the summer months will soon see him return to Italian stadiums for more unforgettable evenings.
Upcoming Tour: OVERDOSE D’AMORE
Kicking off on July 4 at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Zucchero’s tour will continue with performances at various locations, including:
– July 6: Stadio Dall’Ara, Bologna
– July 8: Stadio Adriatico, Pescara
– July 14: Stadio Franco Scoglio, Messina
Before wrapping up in Sicily, he will also make his debut at the Umbria Jazz festival, performing at the Arena Santa Giuliana in Perugia.
A Setlist of Classics
Fans can expect to hear all of Zucchero’s greatest hits, as he often includes an extensive selection in his performances, having played over thirty songs in recent shows. He will be accompanied by a talented band of both national and international musicians, including:
– Mario Schilirò and Kat Dyson on guitars
– Adriano Molinari and Monica Mz Carter on percussion
– Peter Vettese and Nicola Peruch on keyboards
– Polo Jones as the musical director on bass
– James Thompson, Lazaro Amauri Oviedo Dilout, Carlos Minoso on brass instruments
– Oma Jali providing background vocals
A Journey of Resilience
This tour is yet another chapter in a long and illustrious career. Reflecting on his path, Zucchero shared that early in his career, **record labels in Milan overlooked him**. In an interview with Corriere della Sera, he recounted, “After two unsuccessful Sanremo festivals, the record executives began to doubt my image. The 1985 Sanremo with ‘Donne’ was my last chance. I saw my record label representatives fleeing.”
That same song made a return to his setlist at the Arena di Verona, a piece he had not performed since the 1990s. “I hadn’t played it since the nineties. I just wasn’t feeling it, and my singing style had changed. This new organ and voice version feels more refined, and I connect with it well. I also rediscovered the lyrics by Alberto Salerno: a poetic depiction of female fragility.”
Messages Beyond Music
During his performances, Zucchero also addressed the ongoing situation in Palestine and Gaza, stating, “You can’t hold a concert right now and pretend nothing is happening. I feel the pain. I asked a prominent American manager why we can’t organize a concert like Live Aid for Gaza. He made it clear that many advise artists to stay out of such matters.”
This commitment to blending artistry with social awareness demonstrates Zucchero’s depth as an artist, resonating with his audience on multiple levels. As the anticipation for his upcoming tour builds, fans are eager to witness not just the music, but the messages that accompany it.
