Batanes is first drug-free province in PH

BAYOMBONG, PHILIPPINES– The Philippine National Police (PNP) in the Cagayan Valley region has recently declared the province of Batanes as drug-free, the first province in the country that gained headway on the government’s fight against illegal drugs.

Police Chief Supt. Robert Quenery, PNP regional director, said the victory of Batanes province on the war against illegal drugs was attributed to the joint support of local officials and various stakeholders.

“The cooperation and all-out support extended by all sectors contributed to this victory of Batanes province,” he said in a statement.

The declaration was formally witnessed by Batanes Governor Marilou Cayco and vice governor Ronald Aguto, along with local officials of the province.

Quenery also commended the policemen and women of Batanes province for their excellent performance of their duties in the fight against illegal drugs.

He also encouraged various sectors of the coastal province of Batanes to continue their partnership and cooperation to sustain their efforts so that the present situation of the province as drug – free area will continue.

Quenery said Batanes was the first province in the country which was declared by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency as drug-free since the starting point of implementation of the government’s Project Double Barrel in July 2016. Ben Ebreo/PIA
