MANILA, Philippines — Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., is confident that his father and late President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr., will be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City.
“I am confident that they will ultimately agree to let my father be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani because it is in accordance with law,” he said in a statement.
With this, the former Vice-Presidential candidate said they were going to wait on the Supreme Court (SC) announcement of its decision on the petitions questioning the order of President Rodrigo Duterte to bury the Marcos patriarch at the LNMB next month.
“We have been patient for 23 years, we can be patient for a few days more,” he said.
Marcos added, “Let us give our Honorable Justices of the Supreme Court the time they need to study this case.”
At the same time, the former lawmaker expressed gratitude to all their supporters, who trooped to the High Court’s office in Manila to show their support.
“We would like to thank all those who took part in the march and those present toy to express their support for our family,” Marcos said.
He added, “When I ran for office in the last elections, i ran under a platform of unity and this show of support for the burial of my father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is a continuation of that campaign for unity.”
The vice-presidential bet in the 2016 polls also acknowledged Duterte for supporting their cause for the former Chief Executive to be laid at the LNMB.
“We also would like to thank again President Rodrigo Duterte for continuing to support this unifying and healing effort to bury my father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani,” Marcos said.
On Tuesday, the High Court extended for the second time the status quo ante (SQA) orde, temporarily stopping the preparation for the interment of the late president.
The order has been extended until Nov. 8.
On Aug. 23, the SC first issued an SQA effective for 20 days, or until Sept. 12.
The High Court also extended the ruling to Oct. 18 after the oral arguments on the said case last Sept. 7. PNA
