PCSO turns over P5.9-M calamity aid to Cagayan towns affected by flooding

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan- The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has turned over a total of P5.9 million calamity assistance to the affected families of the recent flooding that hit the province caused by typhoon Tisoy.

Heherson Pambid, officer-in-charge of PCSO Cagayan said that it is high time to give back to the people especially those affected by the recent floodings.

Of the total amount, Tuguegarao City received the highest chunk of share of P1.5 million while the municipalities of Amulung, Solana, Lal-lo, Enrile, Camalaniugan and Aparri received P500,000 each.

The municipalities of Rizal, Tuao, Lasam, Santo Niño, Santa Praxedes, Sanchez Mira, Pamplona, Iguig, Gattaran, Claveria, Ballesteros, Baggao, Alcala and Abulug received P100,000 each on the other hand.

For her part, PCSO Gen. Manager Royina Garma said that the amount given to the recipient-municipalities were not biased and went through a thorough assessment and validation.

“Wala pong favoritism sa pagbibigay ng ahensya sa mga munisipyo dito sa probinsya ng Cagayan. Naka-base lang po kami sa mga balita at assessment na ibinigay sa amin”, she added.

Meanwhile, more than 560 indigenous people from Allacapan, Peñablanca and Gonzaga received assistance from the PCSO through its program “Pamaskong Handog ng PCSO”.

Garma said that the gift-giving was part of the corporate social responsibility of PCSO. ‘We also give gifts to deserving recipients. This Christmas, pinili po namin ang mga indigenous people dahil ito po ay guidance ng ating Presidente [Rodrigo Duterte],” she added.

Garma also announced that the PCSO will be back for another wave during the opening of schools next year to give school supplies to IP schoolchildren. (MDCT/JJK)
