‘Cagayan ranks slowest in economic growth in Region 2’

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Governor Manuel Mamba revealed that Cagayan posted the slowest development growth rate in Region 2 last year.

In his speech during the Cagayan media fellowship and Christmas Party, Mamba said the province has been left behind of four other provinces in the region.

“Sabi ko nga, we have a lot to do for the province. When we compare our province to the other provinces, including our neighboring provinces, napakalayo ng Cagayan, sasabihin ko sa inyo,” Governor Mamba said.

Mamba said the “sad” status of the province may have been because of frequent disasters but he also urged Cagayanos to “point to ourselves.”

He, however, said he is not losing hopes.

“Hindi ako nawawalan ng pag-asa, magaling ang Cagayano,” he said.

Mamba added that Cagayan Valley region placed second lowest in economic growth in the entire country, next to ARMM.

This, according to him, makes Cagayan province as one of the slowest performing in the Philippines.

“Just a while ago, sabi nila, we are second lowest in economic growth in the entire Philippines- region 2. Second to the lowest to ARMM. And the lowest here in Region 2, as far as economic growth is concerned, is Cagayan. Which means, we are one of the lowest among provinces in the entire country,” he added.

Mamba did not mention his source of the data, but latest data from Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) however showed Cagayan Valley region posted 3.3 percent growth from 2015 to 2016 in terms of economic growth.

The percentage made the region as 5th lowest, next to ARMM (0.3%), CAR (2.1%), Caraga (2.5%) and Mimaropa (2.7%). Northernforum.net
