Cagayan Valley police nab ex-OFW for illegal recruitment

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Authorities arrested an illegal recruiter in their entrapment operations in Benito Soliven, Isabela on Sunday, February 11.

In a press release, the Cagayan Valley regional police information officer Superintendent Chevalier Iringan said the suspect was identified as Lorlewie Fernandez, a 28-year old businesswoman from Cauayan City.

Police launched an operation against Fernandez when a certain Lorna Cariño reported the suspect for allegedly “deceiving” her in the process of recruitment for employment abroad.

Cariño claimed she was not the sole victim who fell into the modus of Fernandez, who was also a former overseas Filipino worker (OFW).

Recovered from the suspect were backpack, sling bag, Fico Bank  Passbook, two packets of suspected marijuana, P125,000 cash used as “boodle money,” and 13 passports of different persons.

Fernandez is being faced with charges for illegal recruitment, estafa and violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Meanwhile, PRO2 Regional Director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino lauded the prompt action of Benito Soliven police, as he encouraged the public to report to authorities suspects of illegal activities. Northernforum.net
