Police confiscate P62,265 worth of illegally cut down trees in Pamplona

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Almost 2,500 board feet from illegally cut down trees worth P62,265 were confiscated after police authorities intercepted a motorized boat in Barangay Tabba, Pamplona on September 6, says a police report.

According to PMSG Tomas Baggay of Pamplona Police Station, the suspect, Silvester Aquitana claimed that the 2,491 board feet loaded on his boat were to be delivered to the officials of Brgy. Tabba to be used for the construction of their gymnasium.

Authorities then apprehended the suspect after failing to provide documents proving that the delivery of lumbers were legal.

The confiscated lumbers are now in custody of City Environment and Natural Resources Office Sanchez Mira.

Police have filed a case for violation of PD 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines against Aquitana.
