TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The new energy substation of the Cagayan Electric Cooperative (Cagelco) I is set to open on Friday, November 24.
In a press conference on Wednesday, November 22, Cagelco I General Manager Tito Lingan said the Caritan substation will be administering a dry-run energized on Thursday, November 23, as part of its preparation before going online on Friday.
The opening of the new substation is expected to improve the power distributor’s service, as consumers complain of frequent unannounced power outages.
The Caritan substation, according to Lingan, will serve several villages connected to feeders 11, 12 and 13. Lingan said these feeders were experiencing frequent brownouts.
“To address the frequent brownouts…some loads will be tapped to the Caritan substation,” Lingan said.
The substation will also augment the demand of power in some areas as the Carig Substation has yet to be repaired.
Lingan revealed that the Carig Substation is still not totally functioning as of Wednesday due to a damaged power transformer, prompting them to tap the loads of the affected areas to substations of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Barangay Larion and the substations of Piat, Alcala and Solana.
As a result, he said the affected areas are receiving lower voltage, causing some household appliances malfunctioning.
Once opened, Caritan substation is set to temporarily supply power to these affected areas to normalized the voltage they are receiving.
Cagelco I chairman Lorenzo Trinidad Jr said the cooperative has already purchased new power transformer, which cost about P11 million.
Trinidad, however, explained that the delivery has an allowance of 6 months. Northernforum.net
