6 years after destruction, Pigalo Bridge in Isabela finally up for P482-M reconstruction

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan- It was a long wait for residents who endured the sufferings brought by the destroyed Pigalo Bridge in Isabela province. Finally, authorities here said the reconstruction begins.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Cagayan Valley region announced that the construction of the P482.7 million Pigalo bridge project in Angadanan town has finally started.

DPWH-Cagayan Valley Regional Director Melanio Briosos said the six-year old burden of the residents who live in the area will soon be eased up, as he announced, in a statement, the commencement of the construction.

The bridge has been both a burden and threat to residents of Angadanan since it was destroyed by successive typhoons Pedring and Quiel in 2011.

Although the bridge could still be accessed by small vehicles such as single motorcycles and bicycles, authorities said crossing the bridge is “highly-risky.”

Residents in the area have been using small boats to transport people and goods to and from the other side. During rainy season, these boats, however, are prohibited to sail due to swollen river.

Briosos said the reconstruction took this long because they had to process the conversion of roads classified as provincial road to national road.

The bridge is measured to be 450 meters.

Briosos said the reconstruction of the bridge will bring back the normalcy of life of the residents in the area. It is expected to boost the local economy of Angadanan and nearby towns by providing roads for “easier” transport of goods and services.

He added that local farmers in the area will no longer be burdened in transporting their agricultural products to the commercial centers. Northenforum.net
