TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A candidate for barangay chairman in Santiago City was arrested in a buy-bust operation on Thursday morning, April 19.
The suspect was identified as Eugenio de Leon, 53, of Purok 3, Barangay Mabini, Santiago City.
De Leon is currently a barangay councilman or kagawad of the said barangay.
Santiago City Police Director Senior Superintendent Percival Rumbaoa said the suspect is running for chairman in the forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections on May 14.
In a report, police said they initiated the operation at Barangay Rizal, Santiago City.
Joint forces of the Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, Santiago City Drug Enforcement Unit, Santiago City Police Office and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 02 conducted the bust.
Authorities confiscated from De Leon two transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and five pieces of P1,000 bills used as buy bust money.
A case in violation of Section 05 and 11 of Republic Act 9165 is being prepared by PDEA against the suspect. Northernforum.net
