TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Cagayan will recognize Cagayano athletes especially those who have contributed to Region 02’s medal haul in the 2018 Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Sur.
The board on Wednesday, May 2, has approved on joint motion resolutions commending Cagayano athletes for their exceptional performances in the national games.
Separate resolutions of commendation are also filed to recognize gold medalists including John Wayne Pebenito of Tuguegarao City for bagging a gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles for secondary boys.
Among the athletes who contributed to the region’s medal haul is Algin Gomez, a high school student from Aparri, Cagayan, who posted 6.96 meters to bag gold for long jump-secondary boys.
Also, Tuguegarao City’s Rashied Faith Burdeos posted 10.13 meters for shot put elementary girls. Burdeos gave Region 2 its second gold medal during the event.
Third District Board Member Karen Kaye Turingan, the main sponsor of the resolutions, said Cagayano athletes have once again exhibited their exceptional skills and talents.
Cagayan Valley region took home 11 gold, 8 silver, and 14 bronze medals in the annual multi-sporting event, landing at 10th place in the overall ranking.
“These achievements and the exceptional exhibition of performances of our Cagayano athletes in the said athletic event has brought our province pride and honor and, therefore, worthy of commendation,” Turingan said.
The lawmaker from Enrile town also noted that this is the region’s best performance for the national games for the past decade, as first reported here in Forum.
